Power Injection Strategies for LED Strips#

LED strips are deceptively power-hungry. A single meter of 60 LED/m WS2812B at full white draws 3.6A at 5V — and that current has to travel through thin copper traces on a flexible PCB. Voltage drop along these traces is the primary cause of brightness gradients, color shifts, and far-end LED failures in every installation beyond a trivially short strip. Power injection — feeding power at multiple points along the strip rather than relying on end-to-end trace current — is the standard solution.

The injection strategy scales with the installation: a 1-meter desk accent needs nothing beyond the factory wiring, a 5-meter room perimeter needs multi-point injection, and a 20-meter architectural run needs a distributed power bus. Getting the power architecture right is as important as getting the firmware right — and easier to get wrong.
